It helps to have nice weather

Everyone keeps asking me how I'm going to get high enough to finish to roof on the backside of the house. Well, we have been able to gather enough scaffolding from friends that we will be able to 4 1/2 sections high (about 25 feet) and about 3 section wide (10 - 15 feet). We just take our time, move slow and be very careful.

I ended up buying a 40 foot ladder thinking that this was how I was going to finish the roof. Luckily with all the scaffolding I haven't had to use it yet until this weekend. I had to climb up and trim a fascia board that has been hanging out. Standing on the ground and looking up the house looks tall, but once your on a ladder looking down reality kicks in and you really find out how far up you are.

This week end we got about half the roof sheeted. I will post the pictures later since they are still on the camera.

Roof is coming along but...

We are getting a cold snap coming through. The high temp on Saturday is -2. We tried to get a lot done last weekend and as you can see in the pictures we got the fascia board up along the garage, front of the house and along the gable in the front.

Last night I torn down the scaffolding and attempted to set it up in the back but was missing some parts so one I get those I can continue putting up the fascia boards.

We Have Power

We finally got the power installed yesterday. I can now unplug the extension cord from the neighbors and when I pop the breakers I don't have to trudge threw the snow.

Past couple of nights Doug has been rounding up scaffolding for us to use while we are working with the edges of the roof.

This weekend we want to get the 2 X 6's up around the ends of the trusses and possibly the first row of plywood for the roof. I can tell you that I'm looking forward to getting the plywood up so I won't have to shovel snow out of my bedroom anymore(never thought I would say that).

Family update:
Rachel and I brought Ava into Urgent Care on Monday night thinking that she may have pneumonia. 2 others at daycare had it so we thought we would take her in. Unfortunately she did have it. So she has been on meds all week and Rachel has been at home.

Rachel brought her into the clinic today to have Ava's doctor take a look at her. Chest xrays came back negative for pneumonia but the doctor did say she has all the symptoms of a respiratory flu. So she and Rachel maybe home for the first part of next week.

Quick update

I don't have any pictures this time since the work we have done this past week you couldn't see. We ended up having to move all the roof trusses back to the lake 2 1/2 inches. So Saturday we spent a couple of hours removing nails before we had to leave to go to a wedding. Sunday morning I finished removing nails and Doug and I started moving the trusses. Luckily it was about 40 degrees so it wasn't so bad working. We decided to split the roof into 2 sections and move each section separately. This ended up working better than we had thought. And by 4:00 we had the trusses moved and had half of them nailed back down.

Last night I couldn't make it to the house because Rachel and I had to bring Ava to urgent care. Pneumonia has hit a couple of kids at daycare and Ava started showing some of the symptoms. After spending 2 1/2 hours at the hospital, we found out that she did have a little pneumonia in one of her lungs. We feel better now that we started her on some medicine.

Electric Update: This has been on ongoing confusing process but basically we should have our power installed tomorrow. We had an electrician out to install the meter sockets and both the breaker panels before Christmas hoping that we could get the power before then. Xcel called me the week after Christmas saying that they were at the house ready to install the gas and power but could do the power because they needed all the lumber in the driveway moved. So they installed the gas meter and Doug and I spent the night moving all the lumber for the garage and the sheeting for the roof into the garage.

That's it for now. Hopefully we can get the tails of the trusses trimmed this week and possibly start sheeting the roof this weekend.
